A sudden holiday

I hadn’t actually planned to take leave this week, but I actually looked at my pay slip last week, and suddenly noticed that my accrued leave was getting to the point where our HR department would start harassing me to use some of it up. And then I looked at my diary and realised that this week would be my last chance to take it until December. So a quick consultation with my boss, and we agreed that taking a few days off this week would be a good idea.

So here I am, on the first day of my very impromptu holiday. And I spent it being utterly indulgent – a long breakfast at Trattorie, accompanied by a good book of course (well, an ok book, anyway – light and trashy though, so perfect for reading in a cafe), then I was joined by MrPloppy (who’d had to go and see a customer first thing, so wasn’t able to have breakfast with me), and we headed in to Riccarton. After a quick stop to pick up some advertising flyers for MrPloppy (I took the opportunity to drop a book (The Denniston Rose by Jenny Pattrick) in their waiting area), we went to Browsers for lunch (yes, today was mostly about food!). I released Rose Under Glass by Elizabeth Berridge on their fish tank (hoping for another instant catch), and then we went for a browse in Borders, and actually managed to come out again having not spent anything… well, not *too* much, anyway 😉

When we got home, I sat down to prepare for tonight’s ESOL lesson, but the phone rang – it was a friend of my student (she’s not confident enough to use the phone herself yet) saying that she was busy and needed to cancel. So I’ve got the night off, and even better, I’ve got next week’s lesson all prepared in advance!

Now that’s a good way to start a holiday 🙂
