Well that was interesting
About half an hour ago there was a loud bang and our building shook. I thought at first it was an earthquake, but it didn’t feel like the right sort of shaking. My boss was just coming out of his office on his way home, and we discussed what it could be – the obvious thought (especially given the date) was that a plane had crashed – the noise did sound like it had come from the direction of the airport, but we couldn’t hear any sirens or anything.
Anyway, he’s just rung and said he heard on the radio that it was a meteor! Apparently it hit the ground somewhere near Rangiora, and what we heard was the sonic boom as it passed overhead.
It gave me a huge fright, anyway (have I mentioned I’m terrified of earthquakes?). My pulse has just about settled down to normal.
They’ve been talking about that sonic boom on the radio. I wondered if you’d heard it. It sounds dramatic!
